I had the pleasure of photographing Colton recently.  I am friends with his fantastic Aunt Kim, whom I believe is one of my sister's bffs.  I don't know if there is a rated bff system there are not..but she is tops I believe ;)  I heard about Colton's awe inspiring story one day at salon 3:16 while I was waiting to get my hair done.  This is the kind of story that everyone hears, but is rarely traceable.  Like "my neighbor's cousin" had this happen or "I heard it somewhere", this happened.  I was pregnant with Abby at the time and was instantly enthralled with Colton's story.  His mom so honestly and openly shared with me and I want to tell you a little about this wonderful little boy...

Colton was born March 4, 2009.
The day of, Stacie thought she was having a bout with kidney stones. She made an appointment with the ob.
"When I got there they did an ultrasound and there he was in the birth canal. About an hour and a half later we had a 8lb 1oz baby boy. I know folks think I'm crazy, and in some cases I am, but this was an unexpected surprise."
"When Colton was three months old, he was taken to Palmetto Richland for for evaluation for a week because he stopped breathing.  He was sent back to Palmetto Richland PICU(ped icu). He was intubated (endotracheal tube) for 5 weeks. Every time they tried to remove the tube he would struggle to breath. After further testing they found the he had a few hormone deficiencies that were causing his breathing issues. After further testing they said that he had a rare condition called septo optic dysplasia, which also includes vision impairments."
"We have been in and out of the hospital 4 times, mostly trying to get his meds regulated. This is quite the learning process. As of now he seems to be a "normal" (whatever that is) baby other than the vision. They tell us that 80% of infants learning is visual, so we are to expect delays.
I know this may sound very cliche but he is, by far, the best thing that has ever happened to me. They said God does everything for a reason and this baby boy has thoroughly changed my life forever.

Stacy thank you for sharing your story with us and for letting me into your lives and allowing me to capture these images for you.  During the session Colton became a little irritated as most infants do when being photographed.  I asked Emily (my sis) to pull up something on her ipod, because I figured that music might just soothe him, and boy did it ever.  The Avett Brothers were just the ticket.  The song used in the slideshow is the song that made him still and happy...and it just so happens that his parents are engaged to be married, so the song was ironic and perfect.
Colton it is kids like you that change how we look at life.  You make people appreciate things we take for granted.  You make people smile and are such a little blessing.  Please keep Colton and his family in your prayers.  I know God has a fantastic plan for him and I can't wait to watch him grow up!
