Welcome to my blog
So this is a place I rant and rave, wear my heart on my sleeve, gush on my family, and most importantly share my art...the photo stories of wonderful couples and people I cross paths with. Don't be afraid to bookmark it, or leave a comment. I love hearing from everyone and anyone. Check back frequently...I will try to keep you updated.

ps- we are missing the "work- out Mom", the I- wear- flats Mom", "the gardening Mom", the I-wear-a-bikini-and-I-am-over-30-Mom" (not bragging, I really work at that!!), the "lose your cool Mom" ...well you get the point. Lots of jobs we have don't require heels or white gloves, although I do love those dresses, and her sassy short hair.
I wanted to share an image I found that made me smile.
I have a lot to blog, just finding the time with last minute shoots and family togetherness...blog has suffered.
I am praying for some warm and sun-shiney weather today for an e-sesh this afternoon.
There is so much happening around the brocastle like a new church we are a part of, a vacation in February that will require bathing suits!!!, our anniversary is approaching, and a bunch of exciting things. I will post more soon when I have more time to empty my head here.
Thanks for your patience to any that have noticed my hiatus the last few weeks. I have been busy, just not busy attending to my blog's needs.
One weird fact that Bill and I were discussing. Is it weird that my beverage of choice is champagne? Is that even considered a real drink? Like wine is chic, and people have tastings, but I have fallen in LOVE with champagne. Bill said it is funny, cause that is a drink for celebrating and toasting. Well here's to you and me...

I have been thinking a lot- okay almost all encompassed- with stories and "what is her story, and his story and their story"... I had the privilege of being a student at the Eddie Adams Workshop in New York State a few weeks ago. I could have never guessed it would leave me in such a state. I feel alive and thinking and really seeing. I was left with so information I can barely sleep.
As a person with lots of media photographers for friends we always have those long talks with each other about how we want to make people cry with our pictures...there have been some really influential people in my life that have inspired me to do more, see more, take more, create more. I want to name those people hopefully with links so you may be inspired by them. JT Lock, Stacy Pearsall, Beth Caporaletti, Cherie Cullen, Clarence Brown, Ken Hackman, Ami Vitale, Mary Calvert and a whole heap of others that will probably come to me while I am sleeping. (Clarence I need your web address.)
Photojournalism is not something that has come easy for me. I am a person that is usually turned off by confrontation. Stepping into someone's personal space is just that, so personal. It is uncomfortable and a crazy place to be, for the first time.
Shooting weddings and engagement sessions has nothing on shooting an assignment or photo story...trying to convince someone that you are there to take pictures of them, and why, and for what, and who will see these...yadda yadda. People are so resistant to media these days, and maybe always have been for the most part, especially with the internet and all the weirdos out there. This workshop renewed my love and admiration and respect for the photojournalists that make us cry and laugh and astounded with their images. This workshop drove home that I have found my calling. It was a little hard to walk away from a future in photojournalism, that appeared to have limitless possibilities. From flying in C-17s which I loved so much...but there was another plan for me and I am head- over- heels about my children and being able to run my own biz and weddings and brides and not being shot at anymore. This is it for me...what I was made to do!
So I photographed "T" who owns a Barber shop in Ellenville, NY. It is a small town, a unique and quirky town- surrounded by tree- covered mountains & foothills. T was unique and cool and funny and he and I shared a bunch of laughs. I didn't get to shoot T for the full two days, like I was supposed to, which was a bummer. He had some issues that kept us from meeting on Sunday.

Oh blog, how I miss you, my voice misses you. You are my voice. I should really use you more, you are here for me to use and to vent to. The one thing that does not roll it's eyes or talk back or laugh or scoff. When I need you most, I forget about you.
A few things... One is me trying to keep my sanity in these last few days waiting for my husband to get a flight out of Kyrgyzstan. Homework and keeping kids happy and alive and fed and bathed.
I just finished the Mudrun on Saturday. After weeks of working out and spin classes and arms and crunches, I did it. It was hard and long and uphill and muddy and well...we finished. My group had a great time. Em and I really bonded; something I will never forget. I am a total heights homo, and some of the obstacles made me a little crippled with fear for a sec, but I did it. I have a whole fears blog post coming right up.
To add insult to injury we were stuck in traffic and decided to ditch the car and ran/walked 2 miles to get to the mudrun...so we were tired when we arrived. My voice is hoarse from the run and from dinner with some gals right after so I thought it apropos to name my post what I did...it is literal and not so literal, in case anyone even cares. I know my mom will be like "LARYNGITIS...what is going on?!?" if she reads this ;)
One of my best friends is moving away this week...I will/should/need to post all about her and what she has been for me this summer and past few years...
Eddie Adams Barnstorm is coming up in a WEEK!! My husband isn't even home yet and I am getting my portfolio together and starting to pack gear. I am so excited, but sad to leave him. I know he is home for good though, so that helps.
I shot some pictures for two fabulous event planners in Columbia and here is one of those. Yes there are face shots, I just don't want to show them all because they are launching a website soon and I don't want to spoil their secrets.
I am about to blog Caroline & Adam's wedding also...

You are such a good writer, Ashley. I enjoy reading your blogs. You should consider going into writing somehow..along with your photography. You are very talented! Hmm..let's see...you should create a blog/website just for moms and offer some creative photo shoots to go with that theme somehow. However, I'm sure you could come up with something better than that haha.
